MUA Spotlight On: Amanda Gonzalez

TGIF! I told you guys I’d be consistent with the MUA Series and this is me delivering 🙂 Let me introduce you to this talented beauty who is all about THE GLOW, Amanda. As a sophomore in high school, Amanda would watch her mother do her makeup every morning. Her mother would wear different colors on her eyes and indulge in the infamous smokey eye – that is when Amanda fell in love with makeup. She learned a bit from her mother and would play with it on herself and her best friend. Once she graduated high school, she waited a year, went to straight to being an MUA at MAC and never looked back!

What is your favorite high-end brand?

My favorite is NARS.

What are 3 makeup items you couldn’t possibly live without?

My limited edition MAC highlighter Whisper of Guilt, my favorite MAC lipliner in Soar, and my beauty blender.

What’s your favorite drugstore brand?

Revlon – I used to wear their Photoready foundation every day!

What type of beauty product do you buy the most of (mascaras, concealers, lipsticks etc)?

I buy so much concealer and foundation. I swear it’s like I bathe in it lol.

What is the most common makeup faux pas that you see?

People thinking that Ben Nye Banana Powder works for everyone, it doesn’t LMAO.

Do you have a “beauty budget” or do you spend freely?

I spend freely because I’m a true addict, but lately I’ve been trying to budget.

What’s your favorite lipstick?

Snob by MAC – I can wear that lipstick every day!

Describe your everyday makeup look.

My everyday makeup look honestly changes every day. It depends on my mood; I like to switch it up. I never wear the same look over and over again. I like to wear color and be bold. Sometimes, I like to let my skin breathe and keep it natural – all depends on my mood.

What’s your favorite mascara?

The new MAC Upward Lash literally changed my life but Too Faced Better Than Sex was my holy grail.

Is there any celebrity that you get your makeup inspiration from & why that celebrity?

Kylie Jenner. If I had a makeup look to describe me, it would be that. I live for her grunge look, her bold lips, her warm tone eyes – it’s just everything!! I love, love, love!!!!

Do you have some favorite beauty gurus? If so, who?

NikkiTutorials on YouTube is my girl!!! She’s the bomb! A huge inspiration big time!

If you could leave the house with only ONE makeup product, which would it be?

My highlighter lol – I like to shine girl. *hair flip*.

Are there any brands that you try to avoid?

No, I try everything. I love to try new products.

Do you usually “haul” or buy items here & there?

I usually haul. I mean if I’m gonna buy makeup, a girl will go in LOL.

What’s your favorite skincare brand?

Honestly, the best skincare products that I use a lot on myself and that have always worked for me is Jergens Shea Butter to moisturize and Clean & Clear Night makeup remover. I love it! I use it every day!

What is one beauty tool/brush that you’d recommend to anyone?

The clarisonic, especially if you wear makeup! It’s the best tool to clean your skin and leave you with flawless skin.

What is one beauty product that you’d recommend to ANYONE & why?

Mascara – I feel like every one needs it. Even if you don’t wear makeup and you wear mascara it just opens your eyes and gives you such an awake look.

If you had to give up one makeup item for the rest of your life, which would it be?

This is so hard! Primer! I never use it anyway. 😛

What is your absolute pet peeve when it comes to other people’s makeup?

OMG. One thing I cannot deal with is watching people put their makeup on in the train. *CRINGE*. I don’t know why! It just bothers me sooooo much LOL.

Share a beauty tip/trick/hack.. whatever you’d like to call it. Lol

Lol, I always say this but I like to put on my highlighter before my bronzer and blush. I really pack it on so it looks like my skin is glowing with it and I look extra dewy. Then I pack highlighter on after and have just a bunch of highlighter sitting on my skin.

What’s the best way for future clients to reach you?

They can send me a DM on Instagram @amandizzllee or if they have my number to call or text 🙂

Colourpop Highlighters: Review & Swatches

Hey all! Today I want to do things a bit different. Let’s talk about highlighters! I never talk about highlighters because I never really fell into the whole trend. I would very rarely apply highlighters during my makeup routine… until now. When I first dabbled into highlighters, I bought NYX’s liquid illuminator because I wasn’t about to splurge on something I didn’t know how I was gonna feel about. So Becca’s highlighters, Bobbi Brown’s shimmer bricks, etc were out of the question! I ended up enjoying it so I decided to dabble in the highlighter trend.

Colourpop came out with highlighters a few months back and they’re super affordable so I picked a few up. Here the shades…

Left to Right: Highly Waisted, Teasecake, Butterfly Beach, Wisp

Sorry if the swatches aren’t picking up very well but that’s the best I could do for now. So let’s discuss the shades from left to right.

Highly Waisted – soft golden peach with pink and gold duo chrome finishes.

Teasecake – pale pink with a gold and pink duo chrome finish

Butterfly Beach – soft peach with highlights of gold and silver

Wisp – golden champagne with highly reflective hues of gold duo chrome finishes

As far as quality goes, I AM IN LOVE! The texture is like butter. They’re so creamy and pigmented. My personal faves are Highly Waisted and Butterfly Beach. Highly Waisted is a gorgeous rose gold color on my skin. Butterfly Beach is comes off like a golden coral on my cheeks. Teasecake is pretty pink so I would probably use that the least since I don’t do many pink looks. Wisp gives me that bronzy J.Lo vibe so I know I’ll be using that one often.

The price point is $8 each! Yes, only $8. To me that’s incredibly reasonable compared to a lot of other highlighters on the market. So if you’re just trying highlighters for the first time or want to add some new affordable ones to your collection, I’d definitely check out Colourpop!
