Best Selena Makeup Tutorials

Hey, all. I figured that since the Mac Selena collection recently launched that I should share with you my favorite Selena-inspired makeup/hair looks on YouTube. I feel like these videos really captured her essence & look best.

Mac Selena: Swatches

Hey, dears! Now,  I’m sure you knew I had to come back & make a post about Queen Selena’s makeup collection by Mac Cosmetics. I’ve been a Selena fan since I was a toddler. My grandma would play her music all the time when I was growing up, even after she died. So this collection meant a huge deal to me, especially being a Latina woman. This collection is more than just makeup, especially to the Latin community. It’s almost like a symbol that us Latin people can be great, too – especially now when Latin people (especially Mexicans) have been spoken negatively about in a political light. So with that said, let’s see some lipstick swatches.

From left to right: Bidi Bidi Bom Bom, Como La Flor, Amor Prohibido, & Dreaming of You

Also, I know a lot of people were curious to know if Dreaming of You was exactly like Mac Diva. I personally had a feeling it would be similar but not an exact match. I told myself if it was an exact match, I’d be PISSED because I would like to know that these shades were genuinely inspired by Selena’s makeup & that Mac didn’t just slap a different label on a shade that already exists. So here’s the comparison…

Top to Bottom: Diva, Dreaming of You

Fortunately, Diva is a bit darker & warmer than Dreaming of You.

Here’s a closeup of the Techno Cumbia/Ven Comigo compact…

I didn’t swatch this one though because the bronzer is the Mac Blunt & I’m sure a lot of people are familiar with it. The blush is a nice light, dusty pink shade.

Wanderlust: Travel Bucket List

Hey, babes! One thing that I’m determined to do before I leave this earth is TRAVEL. My best friend is a flight attendant as well as one of her best friends. Therefore, the wanderlust has been growing inside me! I decided to make a list of all the places I want to visit and now I’m going to share with my lovely subscribers <3.

Also, let me know if you’re ever visited any of these places and how’d you like it! 😀

  • Australia – The obsession of visiting Australian started with loving Australian accents, followed with loving “Finding Nemo”. Hahaha 🙂

  • Greece – The island of Mykonos is probably one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen through pictures!

  • Hawaii – Fortunately, I’ll be going to Hawaii for my 24th birthday this year :)!

  • Rome – I’ve always wanted to go to Rome since I was little due to the movie “Sabrina Goes to Rome” hahaha. I can’t help that childhood movies are so inspiring! I’m also dying to throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain.

  • Iceland – I’ll be honest. Iceland is on the list simply because of the Blue Lagoon. You can’t deny how beautiful it looks.

  • Brazil – Everytime I think of Brazil, I think of fun, lively, carefree people. So why not visit?

  • Costa Rica I’ve had friends who have visited and they have nothing but great things to say.

  • Thailand – First off, I love me some Thai food. Also, after seeing ANTM Cycle 6, I just knew I had to visit someday!

  • Switzerland – If I had to visit any country with a country hillside vibe, it would hands down be Switzerland. My aunt and uncle visited and said it still is their favorite trip to this day.

  • Los Angeles – I’m an NYC girl who is over NYC. So naturally my next city I’d love to live in and visit is LA.

  • Seattle I couldn’t tell you why I want to visit Seattle. Perhaps it’s because I’m drawn to city places more than suburban.

  • Texas – There is only ONE reason I want to visit Texas. I’m sure you’ve already guessed it: Selena! Anything for Selenasssssssss!

MAC’s First Look at Selena Collection

Hey, darlings! I know I have been gone for ALMOST a month, but I’m back! It was really rough working a full time, stressful , time-consuming job and still get the luxury to write about things that interest me. Now that I’m back, let’s just talk about what really matters. – Selena!

First off, can we address the fact that it’s been 21 years since she’s passed?! I feel like it was yesterday. Although I was 2, I definitely remember seeing it on the TV and how stunned by grandmother was. It is a memory that will be engrained in my mind forever.

Anyway, MAC has finally given us a sneak peek of what’s to come in the Selena Collection. Now, I don’t give a damn if I have all the shade that are released in the collection, I’m buying it. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT. Selena is my idol. I have to give my support. Plus, the colors are inspired by shades that she would wear on and off stage. Who doesn’t wanna wear a Selena-inspired lipstick?! I sure as hell do. Therefore, when it hits counters this October, I’ll be first in line. ❤

10 Favorite Celebrity Biopics

Hey, babes! Lately, I’ve been watching a ton of celebrity biopics. I guess I’m going through a phase, haha. Anywho, I wanted to share with guys my favorite celebrity biopics. When I say celebrity this doesn’t include people in history, politics, or books. I mean people who either sang and/or acted in their lifetimes. So, let’s get this party started!

  1. Selena If you’ve been subscribed to me for a while, you’d know that Selena is my idol. It is no surprise that she is gonna be my #1 on this list. Jennifer Lopez kicked ass in this film and let’s be real… a lot of her success is contributed to this biopic.

  2. The Jacksons: An American Dream I love me some Michael Jackson so this biopic had to make the list. I can watch this movie over and over and over!

  3. What’s Love Got To Do With It The story of Tina Turner is amazing, heartbreaking, and inspirational. This is another story that I can watch countless times and never get bored. Angela Bassett was amazing to the point that I would sometimes forget that I was watching a movie.

  4. Ray was a biopic that had me in tears, along with a few others that I include in this list. Jamie Foxx did a phenomenal job in capturing Ray Charles’ spirit.

  5. Elvis kind of fascinated me. I was always trying to figure out what was the obsession with him and this biopic kind of allowed me to understand it better.

  6. La Bamba was a great biopic that kind of reminds me of Selena. I’d still pick Selena first, though, haha! However, the themes are kind of similar like the whole growing up humble, achieving success, then having it cut short thing. The ending will definitely pull at your heart strings.

  7. Notorious was one of those biopics that everyone was talking about when it hit theaters. Everyone in my high school and neighborhood was talking about it. I don’t blame them because it was pretty damn good.

  8. Walk the Line brought me to tears and the crazy thing is I never paid much attention to Johnny Cash. My parents made me watch it with them and it touched my heart.

  9. Great Balls of Fire! was pure comedy, which is why I loved it. It definitely had some drama in it but for the most part, I was left laughing. I never saw Dennis Quaid the same after watching this movie.

  10. Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart is a biopic that I recently fell in love with. I love me some Toni Braxton and I’m so glad she decided to do a biopic because I know she likes to keep things a little low key.

10 Singers Who Can’t Actually Sing

“It’s like karaoke for pretty girls.” – Lady Gaga

Before I even get into this, I want to thoroughly explain what I mean when I say “singers who can’t sing”. I am not saying that these people necessarily sing badly. These people can definitely hold a tune. What I am saying is that opposed to being amazing, iconic singers, they’re great entertainers. They may be able to hold a tune, but their success is due more to their entertainment factor, style, looks, personality, etc. I am in no way trolling or trying to provoke an online brawl. Each of these celebrities have songs that I’m pretty fond. So, once again, I am not saying that I hate these celebrities or that they lack talent. I’m just saying singing isn’t one of them. Also, I’m not a vocal coach or a professional singer myself, but I do have ears lol. The best way you can tell if someone has vocal talent is by listening to them live or a cappella. Listening to a track is deceitful because we all know autotune exists. It’s like photoshop for the voice. To me, a real singer is someone who can vocally execute seamlessly 95% of the time. They hit those notes flawlessly whether it’s live, a cappella, in the studio, etc. You can agree and you disagree, but I’m sure a good amount of you will agree. The list can go on and on, but these are people who I think of immediately. Let’s jump in, shall we?

Jennifer Lopez (via

I will be the first to say that I love Jennifer Lopez. The woman can dance, her movies are good, and her songs are catchy. However, her voice isn’t spectacular. She can hold a tune and the songs are fun, but she doesn’t sing with power and provoke emotion. I feel like I can find someone just as good vocally on the street, but they probably won’t be as marketable as her. She’s said plenty of times that the only reason she got into singing was because she was inspired by Selena. I think that’s heartwarming and great to know that playing the role of Selena touched her so much, but I just think she’s better off in movies and dancing. She still fierce, though!

Rihanna (via

I LOVE ME SOME BAD GAL RIRI! I love her probably more than I love J.lo. Rihanna can hit some notes here and there. Her voice is better than J.Lo’s, but not quite iconic. However, I still consider her an icon for other reasons. This woman is BADASS. I mean just look at her. From her makeup to her style to her attitude – it’s just raw. Her music is honest and it sometimes does provoke something in you. She doesn’t pretend to be something she’s not. Plus, she can rock the sh** out of a concert! She knows how to entertain. That is for certain.

Katy Perry (via

Once again, Katy Perry is a prime example of someone who can keep a tune but their voice isn’t out of this world. However, she is marketable because she’s unique, upbeat, and fun. Her songs are catchy too. I literally listened to “ET” about 80x in one day when it came out haha.

Lana Del Rey (via

I will always love Lana Del Rey, mainly because of her style. I love anything vintage and retro. I enjoy her voice everywhere except live. I hate to say this, but her live performances are mediocre. Sometimes they’re just plain bad. I won’t lie, though, there are a few live performances that she wasn’t too shabby in. Otherwise, it’s not very good. She’s even owned up to it and said that she’s better in the studio and people should know not to expect much from her performances. However, I’m still going to listen to her music. As long as it’s not live.

Selena Gomez (via

Let me just say that I have a theory that anyone who starts off on the Disney channel is bound to have a short lived or an average singing career. Some examples of this are Lindsay Lohan. Hilary Duff, and Ashley Tisdale. The exception is Miley Cyrus because while she has gone off the rails image wise, she can actually sing pretty damn well. Nick Jonas is also an exception. Also, that theory doesn’t include the Mickey Mouse Club because they’ve clearly produced icons like Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, and Christina Aguilera. Then again, Britney Spears isn’t as good as she used to be. Anyway, I digress. Selena Gomez is relatable to a bunch of youths out there. She can hold a tune. She’s cute. Her music is catchy. However, there’s no “wow” factor vocally.

Taylor Swift (via

Taylor Swift has convinced people that she has some serious vocal talent. She doesn’t. She doesn’t sing awful and yes she can hit a high note once here and there. However, there is nothing intense and amazing about her voice. Like everyone else I’m mentioning in this post, she is super marketable.

Janet Jackson (

Janet Jackson was inevitably going to be well known because she’s MJ’s little sister. However, her voice isn’t spectacular. Her performances are sub-par. I do enjoy her music in the 90s, but now I don’t feel any type of oompf!

Ciara (via

CiCi got some nice style and dance moves, but her voice is mediocre. Her songs make you want to move, but that’s just because they’re catchy. Plus. she’s obviously attractive.

Embracing Your Pear-Shaped Silhouette

Hello, ladies! About a week ago, I saw a post from Christina from ProFresh Style where she was embracing her curvy, thick figure. As a pear shaped lady myself, I thought it would be perfect to talk about the curvy pear shaped figure because I’m sure tons of women out there can relate. Also, I wanted to give some tips and tricks to accentuate that figure NOT hide it! Now don’t misunderstand me. All body shapes are beautiful and unique. I’m not over here quoting Nicki Minaj saying, “F*ck them skinny b*tches.” No. This is not a post to bash any other body type. However, since I can’t relate to those body types I don’t want to just dish random info I found on the internet. I want to make this post more personable and relatable.

So, what does pear shaped exactly mean? Pear shaped basically means your hips, thighs, and booty take center stage on your body. It means your lower half is wider than your shoulders. You also have a defined waist and a smaller bust. Some well-known pear shaped ladies include Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, Shakira, Leighton Meester, and Alicia Keys. It’s actually a very popular body shape. Pear shape doesn’t necessarily mean you’re thick either, it just means you have a curve to your body.

Back then, the goal was to be skinny. Let’s just keep it real here. If you’ve ever seen the Buzzfeed post where they do a whole “fashion history” kind of video thingy, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. However, these days social media is obsessed with the big booty and full hips. So, thanks, Kim Kardashian, Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, J.Lo, etc. Whether the booty is real or not, people are obsessed with it LOL. Anyway, I digress. The point is there is a shift. People are trying to accentuate instead of hide their curves. So here is what I find works best for us pear shaped ladies.

  • Accentuating your hips and defined waist – The best way that I achieve this is by wearing pencil skirts and high waisted pants/jeans. These will make those hips and booty look amazing. I’m literally obsessed with anything high waisted because it makes me feel like Selena. ❤ She was also a pear shaped beauty. Boot cut and straight cut jeans are great too since they make your legs look longer.
  • Balance out your lower half – Since your bust is smaller you can get away with some killer necklines to balance things out. Wide V and U necklines are great for pear shaped bodies. Also, embellishing with accessories is a great way to balance that shape out.
  • Midi is EVERYTHING – Having a pear shaped body doesn’t necessarily mean you have the huge butt. It means you have a wide lower half. However, if you also have a booty and you find that skirts or dresses ride up when you walk, midi skirts and dresses are your besties. Trust me, I KNOW THE STRUGGLE. I can’t wear anything form fitting that’s more than an inch above my knee. Otherwise, I’d be tugging on it all day. Ain’t nobody got time for that!

Those are the 3 things I keep in mind when I’m getting dressed. They’ve never failed me! I hope this helps you fellow pear-shaped ladies out there. If you guys have any suggestions, let a girl know 😉
