Hit or Miss: Shea Moisture’s Curl Enhancing Smoothie

Hey, babes! It’s Hit or Miss timeeeeee :). I know lately I’ve been talking about only hair products, but I think it’s a nice break from all makeup. So, let’s get right to it!

I’ve heard RAVES about this product. I mean I haven’t heard one bad thing about it. Literally. As a transitioning curly haired girl, I had to get my hands on it! I wanted to see if the hype was real. The description on Ulta.com says, “SheaMoisture’s Coconut Hibiscus Smoothie with its nutrient rich vegetable butters condition hair, restoring moisture, body and shine. Enhances curls, minimizes frizz and provides curl control. For thick, curly hair. Sulfate-free and color-safe.”

When I saw the reviews and the description, I was like “Time to go to the drugstore”. I’ve been using this product since I started my natural hair journey and let me tell you…..this ish right here is BOMB. At first, I wasn’t “in love” but that was basically because my hair was in terrible shape and a product can only do so much. After I trimmed my hair, I noticed the product worked so much better. My curls are super soft, more defined, and smell AMAZING. I will say that a little goes a long way since the product is pretty thick. However, if you see white residue on your hair, don’t worry because the product dries clear.

I would suggest this to ANYONE who’s living the curly hair life and/or transitioning. This product will make you regain faith in your hair and help you stay consistent with that journey. It yields actual results! You can get it at the drugstore or Ulta for $11-13, depending on the location.

My All-Time Favorite Face Masks

image1 (5)

Hey, babes! Let’s talk skincare. I think doing a mask at least 2-3x a week is important for your skin. Masks are able to do everything that cleansers and exfoliators can’t. I’ve been wanting to do this post for a while, but I wanted to make sure that I finalized my list of favorites. So, here we go…

From least to most expensive

  • Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque ($4) is the best and most effective drugstore mask that I’ve ever used. It helps clear your skin and minimize pores. I definitely recommend it to anyone on a budget! Try mixing  it with tea tree oil = amazing.
  • Boscia’s Black Luminizing Mask ($34) is a peel-off mask that helps brighten your complexion. It doesn’t do much for acne but it helps with dullness and pores.
  • Peter Thomas Roth Therapeutic Sulfur Masque ($40) is my all time favorite for spot treatment and full-face usage. This baby is magic and made me fall in love with PTR products because he grew up with cystic acne. So, he clearly knows what he’s doing when it comes to making an acne effective product. This baby will flatten your pimples overnight. LITERALLY.
  • GlamGlow Supermud ($69) is a pretty penny but definitely effective. You feel it working and SEE the pores being vacuumed of gunk. It’s kind of fascinating yet gross to see the bacteria that’s in your face. This works just like the PTR Sulfur Masque.

Disappointing Foundations

Hello, darlings! I don’t like to bash products or anything so I barely do a “worst” or “disappointing” type of post. I usually just put my thoughts up on Hit or Miss Mondays and let it be. However, I wanted to cohesively discuss some disappointing products that I’ve purchased. While I was rummaging through my makeup, I realized they were mostly foundations. So, I decided why not just talk about it all in one post. Let’s jump in…

  • Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation I received this foundation complimentary to test out from Influenster. I did a review on it a year ago and my feelings have not changed whatsoever. This foundation is super thick and super hard to blend. You can use a beauty blender or a makeup brush, but it will still be a pain to blend.. It’s straight up cake face. Also, the shade range is crappy. Sand is the color that most closely would match my skintone and I look insane wearing it. It does stay matte, but after all the other issues that it has what’s the point?
  • L’oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation If you’ve been following me for a while, you’d know that I compared this foundation to Maybelline’s Fit Me Matte + Poreless. I gave it a 7/10. It had its issues, but I really wanted to like this foundation. Now, I can say that I really dislike this foundation. As someone whose skin is on the oily side, this foundation becomes patchy and dry on my skin throughout the day. I’ve tried using a different primer with it and moisturizer but it’s still an issue. I wouldn’t say it’s buildable either because it can get cakey real fast.
  • Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse Foundation This foundation was my holy grail in high school. I tried it again a few months ago and I was so upset! I don’t know what’s happened. I don’t know if it’s the formula or me but this foundation makes me look ashy! I look like a ghost when I put this on. Better yet, I look like a corpse. I’ve actually read plenty of reviews of people saying they look like a corpse when they wear this. It’s so disappointing because I know for a fact I’m wearing the right shade but something is totally off. Every thing else is fine. It’s comfortable, blendable, and buildable but I can’t be out here looking crazy!

If you agree with me or have some tips, let a girl know!

My Top 5: Foundations

(via tumblr)

Happy Saturday people! I’ve been thinking about doing a “Top 5” post perhaps every month or every other month, because I find that a lot of people enjoy them. Whether you’re a high end or drugstore beauty person, I think posts like these will be beneficial.  So, be on the look out.

Anyway, lately I’ve been into sampling so many different foundations. Why? Because I just love trying out new foundations! It’s that simple haha. Before I indulge in my top 5 favorite foundations, let’s discuss my personal preference when looking for a foundation.

  • Coverage: It HAS to be medium to full coverage because I do have hyperpigmentation on my chin.
  • Skin Type: It has to work well with combo/oily skin. Lately, my skin has been combo but in the summer it can get crazy.
  • Lightweight: I’m not quite fond of the feeling of having makeup on my face. I know I have it on but I don’t want to feel it.
  • Longevity: It has to be long lasting.

So, based on the criteria above here are my all time favorites from least expensive to most expensive.

Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless ($6-8)

  • This foundation is my new favorite drugstore foundation. As I said in my battle of the brands post, it’s amazing. It’s medium to full coverage and the shade (Warm Honey 322) fits me impeccably. However, I will say the color selection isn’t great, especially for people with darker skin tones. Also, it doesn’t look or feel heavy and the wear longevity is decent. Since it’s matte, it’s ideal for my skin type.

MAC Studio Fix Fluid ($27)

  • The funny thing is that I never tried MAC foundations until last June. This is my best friend’s go-to foundation and she had nothing but good things to say about it. I finally decided to leave my Revlon Colorstay behind and snag me a bottle of this and now…it’s my everyday foundation. But not for nothing, Revlon’s Colorstay is pretty close to this. However, this is better. The coverage is medium but buildable, with a matte finish. It’s not the most lightweight but it’s comfortable and it’s long-wearing.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup ($37)

  • This baby right here is greatness. The staying power is INSANE!!! The color selection is great. The coverage is medium and buildable. My favorite thing about this foundation is that it does not budge for sh*t. I can probably sleep in this and wake up with a full face in the morning, BUT I would never do that. It’s very natural looking too.

NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation ($48)

  • I just recently did a Hit or Miss post on this magic in a bottle so you should already know I’m in love. This is my holy grail high end foundation. Estee Lauder is great but this one is so lightweight it’s scary. The finish is gorgeous!! I look like a glowing goddess without looking like an oil slick. The coverage is definitely full – sometimes I even skip concealer on my blemishes. The longevity is amazing as well. I have nothing bad to say about it at all!!

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk ($62)

  • This one has come close to being my holy grail, VERY CLOSE. The problem is… it’s too damn expensive. A holy grail foundation is something I can continue to buy over and over again and not feel pain. This is literally biting a bullet. NAR’s foundation makes me cringe just a tad but this foundation makes me want to cry hahaha. I fell in love because it’s so lighweight and silky. I love the silky feeling it gives my face. Words can never justify how good my skin feels when I have this on. The coverage is buildable and leaves my skin looking radiant and flawless.

I hope this post gave you some insight on what I think is best in the market based on my criteria. If you’re criteria is similar to mine, I definitely suggest you try these out. Also, I know I had only 1 drugstore foundation on here as my favorite but the rest just don’t scream AMAZING to me. But here are some drugstore foundations that I think are pretty good, as well.

Revlon Colorstay (Although there was controversy surrounding their CEO, I need to give credit where it’s due.)

CoverGirl 3-in-1 & CoverGirl Queen Collection

L’oreal True Match

Beauty Faves or Not?…

So we’re switching it up! Instead of doing a beauty faves of the week I’m going to talk about something that relates to beauty …. preventing & getting rid of ACNE! Yes, acne plagues a majority of people whether it’s severe or moderate. Everyone has had  a pimple once in their lifetime and if someone is telling you they haven’t, they are lying. I suffer from occasional breakouts due to my period [periods ruin everything!]. Nothing worked AMAZINGLY for me. I’ve tried Proactiv but sheesh they are a little to expensive to be upkeeping with, besides my acne isn’t that severe. Max Clarity worked pretty well BUT they went out of business. I’ve tried a few over the counter products but nothing was really a God send until …… I found a dynamic duo that works PERFECT.

My daily face routine consists of washing my face morning and night and putting on an acne cream every morning. The best face wash ever is Cetaphil! My skin type is oily. I’m serious it is OILY! I used to have combo skin but that changed once I hit college. It’s oily as ever especially on my T-Zone. Cetaphil works great. It’s gentle but effective. My doctor recommended it a long, long time ago when I was in middle school but I was too lazy to keep up with a routine.  The also have a lotion but I don’t use it. You can find Cetaphil pretty much at any drugstore or supercenter. I bought mine for about $8 bucks, it depends on the size you buy.

Now on to my favorite acne fighting cream! Clean and Clear Persa Gel-10 is a God send … literally! It’s maximum strength and has 10% benzoyl peroxide. If you know a good amount about acne, you’ll know that benzoyl peroxide kills bacteria so that you won’t breakout. You can buy it for about $6-10 bucks. I use this every morning, sometimes in the nigh too depending on how bad my face is. I also use it as a spot treatment. One thing you have to be careful about is over applying. This product has the potential to over dry your face is you over use it. Your skin needs to get used to the strength of the product first. It says it on the back of the tube. Otherwise, this product is crazy amazing. So, for those acne sufferers out there, try this & see how it works for you! I hope it does 🙂

Top 3 Beauty Faves of The Week

As you know, it’s about that time … it’s FRIDAY!!! So as usual, I’m going to share my top 3 beauty faves of the week with you lovely people ❤ are you excited?! great, me too (: let’s jump in …

Pond’s Wet Cleansing Towlettes are AMAZING. Now, I used to use Neutrogena’s Makeup Remover Wipes but they don’t compare to these babies. Pond’s is cheaper than Neutrogena but it still works amazing. The one thing that I LOVE about the Pond’s wipes are that the don’t burn your eyes! Like who wants burning eyes when removing makeup? uh.. no one! They’re also soapy, you can see the little suds on the wipes & it takes off your makeup COMPLETELY with just ONE wipe. It’s so efficient & makes my face feel utterly amazing. So definitely buy these at your drugstore. I got mine at Walgreens for $4 bucks.

Ambi Fade Cream is another pretty dope product.  I have dark spots on my face from old acne so I wanted to buy a cream to help them fade away because they look soooo bleh! I used to use Cocoa Butter mixed with Vitamin E & it would work but not as quickly as I wanted. So I did some research and bought this magic in a tube. I’ve been using it for about 2 weeks now & honestly I’m seeing results. The results aren’t DRASTIC  but there is definitely a difference in my skin. The only problem is if you have sensitive skin, this product MIGHT make your skin break out. Also, you want to use it on CLEAN skin. The cream comes in oily, normal, & dry skin, so obviously buy the one for your skin type. Also, the Ambi beauty line is advertised for those with dark skin but I’m tan & it works for me fine so I don’t think any fellow tanned people will have a problem. As far as light or fair skinned people, I’m not sure how it will work for you because it does have a bleaching agent in it to fade to the dark spots. So if you do use it don’t go crazy! You can get this at any drugstore for about $7 bucks.

The NYX Hi Definition Photo Concealer is legitimately the best concealer I’ve used in my life. I would’ve taken a real live photo of it but it looks all ugly because it’s running out & I MUST order a new tube. This concealer looks amazing on my skin. The shade I buy is nutmeg & you can’t even tell I have makeup on. It’s perfect for dark circles & blemishes. It completely blurs your imperfections & it doesn’t look cakey or obvious. It also stays on your skin for a good amount of time, but still make sure to set it with some powder. I ordered mine online at Ulta for $5 bucks.

So there you have it! Those are my beauty faves of the week! Hope you try out these products 🙂

Fave Product for Bronzer & Highlight

Hello Darlings!

So, lately I’ve been getting a lot of compliments, specifically from guys about how nice & bronze & rosy my skin is. Some girls have complimented me & asked me if I’ve gotten a spray tan but that’s not it at all. This girl right here DOES NOT TAN … at least not intentionally haha. My natural skin tone is a medium tan with warm undertones. In the summer, I become a more caramel color. In the winter, I tend to look a little washed out because I get a tad paler than my natural skin color. Why? I wish I knew, but I definitely look a little washed out. So! To solve that problem I put on bronzer & every now & then I highlight.

My absolute favorite product for this is Milani’s Illuminating Face Powder in Amber Nectar. Now, I never used to apply bronzer really often but this product converted me. I was first introduced to it about a year ago. My mother works at FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) & she brings me free makeup, perfumes, etc … lucky me! After trying it for the first time, I fell in loveeeeeeeee. I love the way it makes my skin look. My skin looks not too dark, but just glowing. It gives my skin that natural glow. As far as highlighting goes, it gives my cheek bones & natural rosy look. It doesn’t look harsh on my skin, very natural looking. It comes in 2 other shades: Hermosa Rose, which is for more darker skinned people & Beauty’s Touch, which is for more light/fair skinned people. If you’re in the middle like me, Amber Nectar is for you.

So yes, for all you ladies out there who are a fan of bronzers, definitely try this out. You can buy it at Walgreens for about $8 bucks. I haven’t ran out of mine yet, it takes quite a while for you to hit the pan. I probably won’t need another one for a few more months or so. It all depends on how crazy you go with bronzer.

So yeah, I hope you guys give Milani a shot & I hope you like it ❤
