Colourpop x Karrueche Collaboration

DSCI0039 2

Hey, dolls! I was debating whether or not I wanted to buy anything from Karrueche’s collection at Colourpop. However, after seeing some of the lip color swatches, I caved. Her collection includes 7 eyeshadows, 3 liquid lipsticks, 3 lippie stixs, and 1 eyeshadow collection. I didn’t want to go overboard and buy everything, so I simply bought 1 liquid lipstick in the shade Kae.

Before I even show you the swatch, I just wanted to share the cute little notes that come with your package if you order from Karrueche’s collection…

Okay now that I’m done flaunting my notes, let’s look at the swatch! ūüôā

DSCI0033¬†When you first apply the color onto your skin, it looks like an orange-brown. I absolutely love this color. However, on the websites, it’s described as “a deep warm yellow-brown”. Either way, I love the color. As you can see, it’s the exact color in the tube. However, once dried, it becomes a basic brown color. It loses that gorgeous rustic color. That is what pisses me off! I was so baffled and disappointed. I’ve had liquid lipstick change slightly when completely dried, but NEVER like this! I just wish that it would stay like the color in the tube. I’m going to keep the lipstick only because it’s a different shade of brown than the ones I own. It’s still a bummer though and I can’t blame anyone. I figure I should’ve just looked into more swatches of the color before buying it.

Lipstick Staples For Every Woman

Hey, ladies! I’m pretty sure it’s a well-known thing that every woman needs 3 colors in her lipstick collection: reds, pinks, and nudes. Those are the basics! I mean let’s get real, EVERY WOMAN NEEDS A RED LIPSTICK. If you’re not going to indulge in pinks and nudes, then at least get a red lipstick. Red lipstick is too classic for you not to have at least one tube! As a lipstick junkie, I have plenty of colors in my collection. So, it’s pretty easy for me to pull out a couple of red, pinks, and nudes. I figured why not share my personal faves in each color category so that you can possibly get inspired!

Left to Right:

NYX Snow White РA deep, blue-toned red

NYX Alabama РBrick red

MAC Diva РIntense reddish-burgundy

Coloured Raine Cherry Blossom – A brighter, more intense blue, toned red. I like to call it “Selena Red” haha

L’oreal Zoe’s Red – Plum red

Left to Right:

Colourpop Bumble РA dusty, warm terracotta

MAC Mehr – Dirty, blue pink

NYX Merlot – A pinkish red that’s more on the pink side.

Maybelline Touch of Spice – A deep neutral pink

NYX Cannes – A muted pink

Left to Right:

L’oreal Eva’s Nude – nude with a hint of gold

Maybelline Clay Crush –¬†peachy, brown nude

MAC Yash – deep neutral

I hope this gave you guys some inspiration on what lipstick staples to pick up!

Battle of the Brands: Liquid Lipsticks

Hey, babes. I’ve been working on this post for a while because I wanted to finalize my opinions on these babies. I kept testing them out over and over and OVER again until I finally decided what I really thought about them. I’m going to talk about 6 liquid lipstick brands in this post: Dose of Colors, Colourpop, Kat Von D, Coloured Raine, Ofra, and LimeCrime. Before you say anything, I know that I said that I do not support LimeCrime and I still don’t. I have not purchased anything from then since I took that stance. I’m also aware that dangerous chemicals have been found in the RED VELVET shade of LimeCrime Velevetines. However, I’m not going to toss a product that I already owned and spent my hard earned money on. I’m not gonna front on a product because their CEO is full of sh**. Also, I have to keep in mind that not all my readers are against LimeCrime whether they are aware of the issues or not. Just like not all my readers have oily skin, or have tan skin, or have curly hair. I have to be fair. I’m not going to bash a product because I dislike the company or their CEO. Now that that has been cleared up, let’s talk about the rating system.

I’m rating these products on 4 things: pigmentation, consistency, comfort, and longevity.

  1. Pigmentation – Do I need to continuously swipe over and over my lips to get the desired color?
  2. Consistency – Is it lightweight? thick? creamy? more on the liquid side?
  3. Comfort – Does it feel like there’s cement on my lips or nothing at all?
  4. Longevity – Is this gonna last through the day full of various activities?

To me, consistency and longevity are what I worry about the most. Why am I gonna buy a lipstick that doesn’t last long? Why am I gonna apply a lipstick that’s smearing and thick on the lips? Comfort and pigmentation are important but can easily be fixed with lip balm and more product.

  • Dose of Colors Berry Me ($18) This would have to me one of my all time favorites. The pigmentation is flawless! The consistency is like creamy, mousse. I’ve never felt something like it. It almost feels whipped and it’s super lightweight. For that reason, I must say it’s definitely the most comfortable liquid lipstick I’ve ever worn. It takes about 1-2 minutes to fully dry but once it’s dry, there is no transfer. The longevity is good. The only thing I would stay away from is oily foods, but it says that on the website. If you tend to eat something super wet or oily, it will transfer but not fade. The color will never leave your lips. I just wish they had a larger variety of shades. Overall Rating: 4.5/5

  • LimeCrime Salem ($20) The consistency of this liquid lipstick is very liquidy. So, I would definitely work more carefully with it especially since it’s a darker color. Pigmentation is perfect. It does try fairly quick and it’s fairly comfortable. I wouldn’t say it’s super drying on the lips. It does transfer just a tiny bit if it’s not completely dry, but the color doesn’t fade at all. The longevity is pretty damn good. It has lasted me through eating tons of different meals, except buffalo wings. That’s understandable though because wings are very messy lol. Overall Rating: 4/5

  • Ofra Cosmetics Miami Fever ($19.90) I don’t want to upset anyone, but this shade sold out, bun coming back for limited time October 26. It was created in a collaboration with Youtube beauty guru, KathleenLights. However, I figured that some of you possibly ordered it and want to read up on it or some of you want to check out some Ofra other liquid lipsticks and needed a reference. Pigmentation is good. I don’t need to keep dipping in the tube. The consistency is pretty creamy, but slight tacky at the same time. I hate that tacky feeling. It’s not like the NYX Soft Matte lip cream consistency. It’s definitely thicker. I prefer liquid lipsticks on the creamier side, but not thick creamy. Also, this lipstick transfers like no other. I would definitely blot your lips after applying because it definitely takes longer to FULLY dry. As far as comfort, it’s about average. I definitely know I have something on my lips, but it doesn’t necessarily bother me. For longevity, it stays on for a pretty good amount of time. However, if you find your lips are drying while wearing it, the color may peel. Overall Rating: 3/5

  • Colourpop Bumble and Tulle ($6) When it comes to these, you either like them or you don’t. The pigmentation on these depends on the color you buy. For a lighter shade, like Bumble, I sometimes have to double dip in the tube. It might get a bit streaky when applying. For a darker shade, like Tulle, I can apply on my whole pout in one shot. These dry SUPER FAST! The moment you apply your bottom lip and move on to your top, the bottom will be dry. It literally dries instantaneously and the consistency is very liquidy and lightweight. It’s definitely more on the drying side, as well. So, I would deeply moisturize my lips before wearing them. You’re supposed to moisturize your lips regardless before applying liquid matte lipsticks, but for this one you REALLY need to. They don’t transfer at all, but if you’re eating a lot it CAN fade towards the end of the day – especially when it comes to the lighter shades. Overall rating: 3.5/5

  • Coloured Raine Cherry Blossom ($16.50) This is probably my favorite liquid lipstick color ever! It looks gorgeous on my skin tone. But, I digress. We are talking quality of the formula, not color haha. The consistency is on the more liquid side and it dries pretty much instantaneously. It’s pretty lightweight on the lips, too. The longevity and pigmentation of this color is a beast! It’s a pain to remove. It doesn’t transfer one bit! It does feel a bit uncomfortable at first, but once it’s like fully settled into your lips, you’ll barely feel it. Also, be sure to put a thin layer on because otherwise it will feel super uncomfortable and start to crumble. That is the worst feeling ever. Overall Rating: 4/5

  • Kat Von D Lolita ($22) I have the 2nd release of Lolita aka “the bad batch”. However, I have NO COMPLAINTS. I like it! Kat Von D’s liquid lipsticks are amazing! I’m just gonna say that upfront. The consistency is lightweight and more on the liquid side. The pigmentation is spectacular. The comfort level is good. It’s not as lightweight as Dose of Colors, but it’s still light. I’m not bothered by wearing it at all! The longevity is great, as well. The only time I’ve noticed any fading is when I’m eating something oily and it on fades in the center of my inner bottom lip. To me, that’s barely noticeable. Otherwise, it’s spectacular. Another huge bonus is that they have a huge color selection! Overall rating: 4.5/5

Top 7: Affordable Makeup Companies

Once again, it’s time to give a shoutout to all the frugalistas out there. This one is for you :). Makeup can become an addiction. All those amazing, beautiful colors and how they just make your face a masterpiece, it’s just plain goodness! In order to feed that addiction, you need to cough up the dough. However, some makeup companies have some insane prices. Unfortunately, some people think that for great quality you need to drop a bunch of money. Wrong! There are a good amount of places that are super affordable and still maintain good quality. I’m going to share with you my favorite places to shop when I’m on a budget because no one wants to end up like this….

  1. NYX Cosmetics¬†NYX was my first love when I got into makeup. It was within my broke a** college budget range and the quality was, and still is amazing! I have so many NYX products. Their lipsticks, eyebrow pencils, bronzers, illuminators, lip liners, etc are just perfect. The price range is $3-30. Most of the products fall below $15 unless you’re getting a kit or palette.
  2. elf Cosmetics¬†I know some people have reservations about elf but they are pretty damn dope. The makeup tools are great and so are their makeup products. My all time faves are their eyeshadow palettes, blushes, and brushes. About 90% of their products are less than $20. The other 5% are on the pricier side because they’re mostly made up of makeup collections.
  3. BH Cosmetics Ever since the BH’s website crashed due to every one wanting to buy the Carli Bybel Palette, a lot of people have been bashing the company. So many people were telling Carli that she should’ve went with a higher end company. That’s just pure bullsh*t. It honestly pissed me off. Just because a company is having technical difficulties RIGHTFULLY SO doesn’t mean that the company is garbage. It’s technology. It’s life. I’ve been using BH Cosmetics for a while now. All my brushes basically come from there and a good amount of my palettes. The quality is great! I’ve never had any complaints. Also, Carli stated that it was one of the first makeup brands she purchased from when she started on YouTube. So, I just find it rude and ridiculous that people want to bash a company because of a day of technical difficulties. Get over it.¬†Moving on from my rant (haha), this company has great brushes and palettes. You can also find a pretty good beauty blender dupe for $5! Almost everything is less than $20 except for a couple of brush sets and their makeup storage boxes.
  4. Colourpop¬†When I discovered Colourpop, I was thrilled! The colors are gorgeous and super pigmented. Everything is less than $10, unless you’re buying a collection item which can range from $20-30. I definitely recommend their highlighters and lip products.
  5. L.A. Girl¬†Once I bought their concealer, I was hooked. Everything is $10 or less. I highly recommend their concealers, lipsticks, lip liners, and face powder. The quality is superb and you can’t beat a price like that!
  6. City Color Cosmetics I recently found out about this company from a coworker and I can’t believe I didn’t know about it sooner. I’ve bought a few lipsticks, blushes, and lip liners from there. They all are pretty good quality and the lipsticks are super moisturizing. Most of the products are less than $15. A few slip into the $20-35 range.
  7. Coastal Scents¬†I haven’t bought much makeup from here except 2 eyeshadow palettes. However, I really like their brushes. They haven’t shed or failed me yet. It kind of reminds me of BH cosmetics except they have more brush options. Everything is $20 or less and they are always having a sale.

These are the companies that I personally enjoy and recommend the most. Any other suggestions, feel free to let a girl know ūüėČ

Although it may not feel like it, summer will be slowly coming to an end. The end of summer means less sun so less of that bronzed glow that you were rockin all summer long. Now, I know you may be thinking that I’m naturally bronzed, which in a way is true. That still doesn’t mean that the summer doesn’t give me a healthy glow. I, just like the rest of you, want to maintain that glow! So here are my favorite, affordable products to help you achieve and maintain that! Also, shout out to Desi Perkins for giving me the inspiration for this post. She stay doing bronzed makeup tutorials haha.

  • Avon Glow Bronzing Pearls ($9) – This is my absolute holy grail!!! I’ve been using it for years and it’s never failed me. I use it all year long to give me that warm glow all over my face.
  • Maybelline Master Hi-Light Face Studio Hi-lighting Bronzer ($10) – I fell in love with this last fall. It’s a highlighter and bronzer in one. However, it is pretty pigmented so I’d keep a light hand when using. Some people complain that it’s too shimmery but uh hello, it’s a HIGHLIGHTING bronzer.
  • Colourpop Highlighters in Butterfly Beach & Highly Waisted ($8 each) – These products are more for complimenting the bronze since they’re obviously highlighters. I pair these up with my Avon Bronzing pearls all the time and it looks FLAWLESS!
  • Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs ($10) –¬†I got this complimentary for testing purposes from Influesnter months ago. However, I just used this to the beach on Sunday and it was amazing. I have some scaring on my legs from childhood injuries so I wanted to cover them up. Not to mention my legs were on the pale side since I hadn’t really bared them all out this summer. So I dabbed this all over my legs with a stippling brush and it was AMAZING. It even makes cellulite look less noticeable, but I’ve heard that’s what self tanners do. Then when I got into the sunlight, it was GLOW HEAVEN. There was a sparkle to my legs but nothing like you see in “Twilight”. It was just the perfect finish.
  • NYX Liquid Illuminator ($8) – Once again, this is a more complimentary product for the bronze but it’s still great. I used to have Gleam, which was perfect for my bronzed summer skin but now I have Sunbeam. Sunbeam is great for all skin tones, but especially light to medium. So, I definitely plan to use this when my skin gets a bit paler.

What are some of your favorite products to keep that bronzed glow?

Colourpop Highlighters: Review & Swatches

Hey all! Today I want to do things a bit different. Let’s talk about highlighters! I never¬†talk about highlighters because I never really fell into the whole trend. I would very rarely apply highlighters during my makeup routine… until now. When I first dabbled into highlighters, I bought NYX’s liquid illuminator because I wasn’t about to splurge on something I didn’t know how I was gonna feel about. So Becca’s highlighters, Bobbi Brown’s shimmer bricks, etc were out of the question! I ended up enjoying it so I decided to dabble in the highlighter trend.

Colourpop came out with highlighters a few months back and they’re super affordable so I picked a few up. Here the shades…

Left to Right: Highly Waisted, Teasecake, Butterfly Beach, Wisp

Sorry if the swatches aren’t picking up very well but that’s the best I could do for now. So let’s discuss the shades from left to right.

Highly Waisted – soft golden peach with pink and gold duo chrome finishes.

Teasecake –¬†pale pink with a gold and pink duo chrome finish

Butterfly Beach – soft peach with highlights of gold and silver

Wisp – golden champagne with highly reflective hues of gold duo chrome finishes

As far as quality goes, I AM IN LOVE! The texture is like butter. They’re so creamy and pigmented. My personal faves are Highly Waisted and Butterfly Beach. Highly Waisted is a gorgeous rose gold color on my skin. Butterfly Beach is comes off like a golden coral on my cheeks. Teasecake is pretty pink so I would probably use that the least since I don’t do many pink looks. Wisp gives me that bronzy J.Lo vibe so I know I’ll be using that one often.

The price point is $8 each! Yes, only $8. To me that’s incredibly reasonable compared to a lot of other highlighters on the market. So if you’re just trying highlighters for the first time or want to add some new affordable ones to your collection, I’d definitely check out Colourpop!
