Disappointing Foundations

Hello, darlings! I don’t like to bash products or anything so I barely do a “worst” or “disappointing” type of post. I usually just put my thoughts up on Hit or Miss Mondays and let it be. However, I wanted to cohesively discuss some disappointing products that I’ve purchased. While I was rummaging through my makeup, I realized they were mostly foundations. So, I decided why not just talk about it all in one post. Let’s jump in…

  • Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation I received this foundation complimentary to test out from Influenster. I did a review on it a year ago and my feelings have not changed whatsoever. This foundation is super thick and super hard to blend. You can use a beauty blender or a makeup brush, but it will still be a pain to blend.. It’s straight up cake face. Also, the shade range is crappy. Sand is the color that most closely would match my skintone and I look insane wearing it. It does stay matte, but after all the other issues that it has what’s the point?
  • L’oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation If you’ve been following me for a while, you’d know that I compared this foundation to Maybelline’s Fit Me Matte + Poreless. I gave it a 7/10. It had its issues, but I really wanted to like this foundation. Now, I can say that I really dislike this foundation. As someone whose skin is on the oily side, this foundation becomes patchy and dry on my skin throughout the day. I’ve tried using a different primer with it and moisturizer but it’s still an issue. I wouldn’t say it’s buildable either because it can get cakey real fast.
  • Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse Foundation This foundation was my holy grail in high school. I tried it again a few months ago and I was so upset! I don’t know what’s happened. I don’t know if it’s the formula or me but this foundation makes me look ashy! I look like a ghost when I put this on. Better yet, I look like a corpse. I’ve actually read plenty of reviews of people saying they look like a corpse when they wear this. It’s so disappointing because I know for a fact I’m wearing the right shade but something is totally off. Every thing else is fine. It’s comfortable, blendable, and buildable but I can’t be out here looking crazy!

If you agree with me or have some tips, let a girl know!

Hit or Miss: Too Faced Melted Liquid Lipstick

Hey, all! Today may be my birthday, but that doesn’t mean I don’t deliver to you guys. Besides, I really wanted to discuss this lipstick because I’m surprised I’ve never talked about it before!

Now, there is a pattern when it comes to my lipstick choices. That pattern is that I’m a huge fan of matte finishes. I rarely ever do gloss. I don’t even remember the last time I wore a glossy lip. However, last year I saw Nicole Guerriero do a makeup tutorial and include this exact lipstick and shade (Melted Berry) and I HAD TO HAVE IT! So, I picked it up and used it a couple of times last year. However, I find myself reaching for it a bit more because sometimes a girl needs a break for matte lipsticks. describes it as “The shine of a gloss, lasting power of a stain, and pigment-packed color of a liquid lipstick, all in one high-impact formula. Bold, long-wearing color glides on cleanly with the precision tip applicator, delivering rich color with staying power.” Now that I’ve used it a bit more, I can tell you my solid opinion on it.

This lipstick is probably the only glossy lipstick I’ll ever own because it’s the only one I enjoy. This lipstick is super comfortable, super pigmented, and super long lasting. The color doesn’t fade for anything! They’re not kidding when they say it has the lasting power of stain. It’s everything I’ve never had in a glossy lipstick before. The color is gorgeous, as well. I definitely plan on picking up more colors. You can buy it at Sephora for $21.

Hit or Miss: Big Sexy Hair Get Layered Thickening Hairspray

Hey, dolls! I realize that it’s been a little while since I’ve reviewed a hair product on Hit or Miss Mondays. While I was looking around my room for things I haven’t talked about yet, this spray was just on my dresser sitting pretty. I’m shocked I didn’t review this sooner, but here we go…

I got this hairspray a few months ago from my mother. She gets tons of free beauty products so she passes them along to me. I’ve heard of the Sexy Hair company, but I never bought anything because they’re kind of pricey. So, when I got it for free I was kind of excited. This spray is basically supposed to thicken and provide flexible hold. According to the company website, “Get Layered is packed with moisturizing agents that help condition and soften while allowing to layer without product build-up or leaving the hair dry. It has a buildable hold factor for great versatility. Offers a flash drying time and protection from humidity, frizz, and damaging UVA/UVB rays.”

I don’t use hairspray unless my hair is wet and curly or if my hair is curled with a curling iron. This isn’t the kind of spray I’d use on wet or damp hair so I decided to use it after I used my curling iron. I like my hair to be messy and big when it comes to using the curling iron. I like textured, messy hair. After using the curling iron, I sprayed this on my hair to give it volume and texture and it did just that. It dries super fast and the hold is great. It leaves no crunch, hardness, or residue to your hair whatsoever. Your hair remains pretty damn soft and touchable. Also, the formula is lightweight. It doesn’t feel sticky or oily. It’s just right! If you’re into the “bedhead chic” look, I’d definitely give this spray a shot. You can get it for around $12-18 depending on where you get it. Pricey? A little. However, it’s definitely worth it. Needless to say, it’s a HIT.

Hit or Miss: Yardley’s Oatmeal & Almond Soap

It’s Monday! That means time for that weekly product review on Hit or Miss Mondays 🙂

So normally, I prefer body wash to bar soap. When I use bar soap, it’s strictly Dove. Dove body products just do wonders for my skin. However, when my family bought a pack of Yardley’s Oatmeal & Almond soap, I decided to give it a try. Oatmeal is great for skin irritation and dryness. Almond just smells good! So, I would imagine that the 2 of them together would work well on my skin.

I’ve been using this soap for about a week and it’s amazing! I can honestly say it makes my body feel a bit softer than when I use the Dove soap. This soap creates a really, rich lather and also exfoliates my skin at the time because it has these tiny exfoliating beads in it. The smell is amazing too. When I get out the shower, my skin feels like butter before I even put on lotion. It’s also gentle enough to use on your face. I really can’t think of one bad thing to say about this soap. It’s a HIT, for sure.

You can find it in most supermarkets and drugstores.

Hit or Miss: New York Color Smooth Skin Bronzing Powder

Hey, all! I’m pretty proud of myself for being pretty damn consistent with this series. So, here we go!

I’m definitely more of a bronzer than blush girl. So, when I received this baby in my Fiesta VoxBox, I was obviously excited. However, I was slightly disappointed that it only comes in one shade! Yes, one shade. I just find that insane because one shade doesn’t fit all obviously. I’m already tan, so I need a bronzer that’s going to warm up my face and not just look like regular face powder. Still, I gave it a shot and to my surprise it was pretty good!

This powder gives you that sun-kissed glow that you need when the cold weather starts coming through. It’s not a shimmery bronzer but it definitely warms up the skin. Although it’s matte, I wouldn’t use it to contour because it’s not the perfect contour shade for my skin tone. However, someone with lighter skin might be able to use it as a contour powder. Overall, I think this product is great. I find myself reaching for it often. Needless, to say it’s a HIT. I got it for free, but you can buy it for $3 at any drugstore that carries New York Color.

Note: I’ve received this product complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

Hit or Miss: Too Faced Born This Way Foundation

Don’t think that the Emmy’s made me forget about “Hit or Miss” Mondays! Let’s jump right into this product review.

So many people have been raving about it and how natural looking it looks. The online description states, “Born This Way is an oil-free foundation that masterfully diffuses the line between makeup and skin. For coverage so undetectable, you can’t see the makeup or the imperfections—just a natural-looking, luminous, flawless complexion. The revolutionary formula is infused with a potent combination of coconut water to naturally replenish moisture levels; nature’s resilient alpine rose to brighten the skin’s appearance and promote elasticity; and hyaluronic acid for a smoother, more youthful appearance.” Anything that oil-free is something worth trying so I picked up a sample 3 weeks ago in the shade Honey.

Ideally, I wanted to use this foundation for about a week before sharing my final thoughts but after 3 uses, I already know how I feel. First off, the shade matched my skin fairly well but it just a smidge more neutral. Th coverage is medium to full and the consistency is on the thicker side. The first time I put it on, I was little taken aback by how my faced look. It looked like I hadn’t put any makeup on but I had a glow. I know that sounds weird, but I felt a little off haha. However, once I finished my full face, I liked it. The natural finish was great and it did look like your skin. The second time I used it, my oily T-zone was just not having it! The foundation was looking greasy and was breaking me out!. I tried it for the last time and noticed even more breakouts and it also faded after about 10 hours of wear. That’s not too crappy as far as longevity goes, but I prefer long wearing foundation. What bugs me the most is the fact that it has caused breakouts on my skin! My skin has been at its best for the past 2 months and I only get a blemish when my period is coming. My skin isn’t sensitive at all. So, I knew it was the foundation’s fault.

Needless to say, I was disappointed by this foundation. I really did want to love it but it’s a MISS in the books for me! If you still want to try it, pick up a sample first. The full price at Sephora is $39.

Hit or Miss: No7 Beautiful Skin Night Cream

It’s Monday babies, so let’s get right into this review! I received this product complimentary from Influenster. I got a sample size to try out so don’t be fooled. I didn’t get a whole jar. I’ve been trying out the product for about 3 weeks and here are my thoughts.

According to the description, this product “energizes and hydrates for healthy looking radiant skin. Created to help your dry skin behave like normal skin and provide tailored skin nutrition for healthy looking, bright and beautiful skin.” Keep in mind that this product is for normal/dry skin. My skin is far from dry; it’s skin is combo/oily. However, I gave it a shot. What I enjoy about this product is that it does absorb pretty quickly and it makes my skin feel soft instantly. However, when I wake in the morning my skin feels incredibly greasy and I HATE that.  Also, I’m not a fan of moisturizers that don’t do anything but basically moisturize. I need a product that’s going to go beyond its main purpose. Every moisturizer I’ve tried has other things that it does besides moisturize. Whether it fought acne, cleared dark spots, diminished pores or wrinkles, it did something. Unfortunately, when I use this product I feel like I can use any cream on my face and get the same results. I’m not impressed. I ultimately have to say this was a MISS in my book, mainly because I wanted more out of the product.

I do think that this product can work for people with dry skin, but oily skin people need to steer clear. If you’d like to purchase it, you can find it at Ulta for $14.99.

Note: I’ve received this product complimentary for testing purposes.
