Best Selena Makeup Tutorials

Hey, all. I figured that since the Mac Selena collection recently launched that I should share with you my favorite Selena-inspired makeup/hair looks on YouTube. I feel like these videos really captured her essence & look best.

Mac Selena: Swatches

Hey, dears! Now,  I’m sure you knew I had to come back & make a post about Queen Selena’s makeup collection by Mac Cosmetics. I’ve been a Selena fan since I was a toddler. My grandma would play her music all the time when I was growing up, even after she died. So this collection meant a huge deal to me, especially being a Latina woman. This collection is more than just makeup, especially to the Latin community. It’s almost like a symbol that us Latin people can be great, too – especially now when Latin people (especially Mexicans) have been spoken negatively about in a political light. So with that said, let’s see some lipstick swatches.

From left to right: Bidi Bidi Bom Bom, Como La Flor, Amor Prohibido, & Dreaming of You

Also, I know a lot of people were curious to know if Dreaming of You was exactly like Mac Diva. I personally had a feeling it would be similar but not an exact match. I told myself if it was an exact match, I’d be PISSED because I would like to know that these shades were genuinely inspired by Selena’s makeup & that Mac didn’t just slap a different label on a shade that already exists. So here’s the comparison…

Top to Bottom: Diva, Dreaming of You

Fortunately, Diva is a bit darker & warmer than Dreaming of You.

Here’s a closeup of the Techno Cumbia/Ven Comigo compact…

I didn’t swatch this one though because the bronzer is the Mac Blunt & I’m sure a lot of people are familiar with it. The blush is a nice light, dusty pink shade.

MAC’s First Look at Selena Collection

Hey, darlings! I know I have been gone for ALMOST a month, but I’m back! It was really rough working a full time, stressful , time-consuming job and still get the luxury to write about things that interest me. Now that I’m back, let’s just talk about what really matters. – Selena!

First off, can we address the fact that it’s been 21 years since she’s passed?! I feel like it was yesterday. Although I was 2, I definitely remember seeing it on the TV and how stunned by grandmother was. It is a memory that will be engrained in my mind forever.

Anyway, MAC has finally given us a sneak peek of what’s to come in the Selena Collection. Now, I don’t give a damn if I have all the shade that are released in the collection, I’m buying it. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT. Selena is my idol. I have to give my support. Plus, the colors are inspired by shades that she would wear on and off stage. Who doesn’t wanna wear a Selena-inspired lipstick?! I sure as hell do. Therefore, when it hits counters this October, I’ll be first in line. ❤

Favorite Non-Matte Lipsticks

Screen Shot 2016-03-16 at 9.15.45 PM

Hey, dolls! I know matte lipsticks have been the trend, especially matte LIQUID lipsticks. I feel like everyone has come out with a matte liquid lipstick. Now even though they are gorgeous, they can be rough on the lips. I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s suffered from dry lips due to overusing matte lipsticks. Sometimes your lips need a break! It’s not a crime.

I wanted  to share with you guys my favorite lipsticks that are soft, creamy, luscious, gorgeous and everything in between. These lipsticks and glosses are my go-to’s when my lips need some moisture.

From Left to Right:

MAC Verve is a great everyday color and it’s satin finish.

NYX Intense Butter Gloss in Peanut Brittle is a gorgeous nude shade.

NYX Intense Butter Gloss in Chocolate Apple is great if you wanna be simple but add a pinch of sass.

Too Faced Melted Fig is a versatile pinky mauve.

Too Faced Melted Berry is my favorite spring color.

City Color Head Over Heels is just the warmer version of MAC Verve in my opinion, but I still give it recognition!:)

Colourpop x Karrueche Collaboration

DSCI0039 2

Hey, dolls! I was debating whether or not I wanted to buy anything from Karrueche’s collection at Colourpop. However, after seeing some of the lip color swatches, I caved. Her collection includes 7 eyeshadows, 3 liquid lipsticks, 3 lippie stixs, and 1 eyeshadow collection. I didn’t want to go overboard and buy everything, so I simply bought 1 liquid lipstick in the shade Kae.

Before I even show you the swatch, I just wanted to share the cute little notes that come with your package if you order from Karrueche’s collection…

Okay now that I’m done flaunting my notes, let’s look at the swatch! 🙂

DSCI0033 When you first apply the color onto your skin, it looks like an orange-brown. I absolutely love this color. However, on the websites, it’s described as “a deep warm yellow-brown”. Either way, I love the color. As you can see, it’s the exact color in the tube. However, once dried, it becomes a basic brown color. It loses that gorgeous rustic color. That is what pisses me off! I was so baffled and disappointed. I’ve had liquid lipstick change slightly when completely dried, but NEVER like this! I just wish that it would stay like the color in the tube. I’m going to keep the lipstick only because it’s a different shade of brown than the ones I own. It’s still a bummer though and I can’t blame anyone. I figure I should’ve just looked into more swatches of the color before buying it.

3 Ways To Use Jamaican Black Castor Oil

DSCI0022 2

Hey, dears! I wanted to chat with you guys today about how I use Jamaican Black Castor oil on a daily basis. I came across this oil by researching natural hair tips and tricks. So, let’s jump in, shall we?

  • Hair The biggest way I use JBC is for my hair health. I rub it into my scalp about 2-3x a week. A little goes a super long way so don’t go HAM. The consistency is also thick so rub it in between you palms so it gets warm and thinner in consistency. You can also use it on your ends and as a hot oil treatment. The biggest benefit I’ve seen so far is that my hair has become stronger and grows faster.
  • Eyelashes and Eyebrows I barely have any eyelashes so I’ve been using this to see if something changes. So far, I haven’t noticed much of a difference. However, my eyebrows are definitely growing in more evenly. I naturally have full brows, but when I shape them the hair grows back a little funky. Since using this, the growth pattern is better.
  • Acne Most acne is caused by an overproduction of sebum (oil). That’s why it’s important to moisturize your face, even if you’re oily skinned. If you don’t your skin will try to compensate and that’s how pimples form. You can use JBC by just massaging a little on your problem areas then rinsing it off after 10 minutes. Make sure your pores are open before you apply the oil so your skin can fully absorb the product.

DIY Hair Trim on Curly Hair

Hey, darlings! Let’s talk about cutting hair…your OWN hair. When I was in college, I realized that plenty of my friends would trim their hair themselves. Back then, the simple thought of cutting my hair terrified me. I’ve gotten plenty of trims and haircuts in my life but I would always get them done by a professional.

As I dug deeper into the natural hair community, I realized a bunch of natural haired girls trim their own ends. I originally wanted to get a DevaCut, but I realized it’s slightly out of my price range right now and it’s too early in the game. I want to get a DevaCut to shape my curls, not just to trim dead ends. So, I’ll eventually get one when I feel like my hair is at it’s best state. Anyways, back to how I trimmed my own hair. First off, I washed it and let it get a little dry. I didn’t want to cut it soaking wet because I didn’t want to trim too much off. I waited until my hair was damp and then sectioned it. I did a total of 4 sections starting from back to front. So, I started at the nape of my neck going upwards. However much I trimmed on the nape of my neck would determine how much I was gonna trim for the rest of my hair. I would say I trimmed about an inch of damage, maybe 1/4 inch more. If you want to see a video of the method I used, check out Jade Kendle’s hair trim video.

I proceeded to diffuse my hair and if I saw any pieces that were still longer, I’d dry cut them. After that, I WAS DONE. I honestly really liked how it came out.

I still have about a half an inch to an inch of damage, but my ends definitely curl better. My hair doesn’t feel as weighed down and I’m super relieved :).
