Let’s Talk: Liquid Matte Lipsticks

Good morning all! Let’s talk about one of my faveeeeeessssss… LIPSTICK!! Lately, everyone has been hopping on the liquid lipstick bandwagon and you can’t blame em’ cause it’s magic in a tube. I want to talk about 3 liquid lipsticks that I just adore: Lime Crime Velvetines, Dose of Colors, and Kat Von D. Let’s just jump in, shall we?

left to right: Lolita (Kat Von D), Berry Me (Dose of Colors), Salem (Limecrime)

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick ($19)

Shade: Lolita

Okay so before I even discuss my opinion on this, let’s address the elephant in the room. Lolita has been a very high demand color for while now. EVERYONE AND THEIR MOMMA WANTED THIS LIPSTICK. I’ve wanted this color since early November due to Nicole Guerriero’s October Favorites video. I saw her wear it and I had to have it but like with most popular products it was SOLD OUT VIRTUALLY EVERYWHERE. I called countless Sephoras in NYC and checked online. Then, BAM it was back in stock a week or so before Christmas. So naturally, everyone was buying it! However, some….actually MOST people were unhappy with it because the color had changed to a “muddy brown” instead of the “dusty rose” that Sephora uses to describe Lolita. People were also saying that the consistency was sticky and disgusting. Granted, I was hesitant to buy it after I saw all these horrible reviews from disappointed customers. I didn’t want a brown because I already have a brown lipstick. I did keep in mind however, that certain lip colors look different on different skin tones. So, I went to Sephora yesterday, swatched it, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was the exact color I wanted it to be! Do I still think that there are some Lolita lipsticks out there that are a “muddy brown”? Yes, I’m not calling anyone a liar because I’ve seen it look brown on some people on Instagram. All I know is that MINE is a “dusty rose” shade. Someone also claimed that the formula was changed without notice and that Kat Von D will be releasing a “Lolita 2” next year. However, I don’t know much of any real facts since I’m just going off of customer reviews. Either way, I’m happy I got the shade I wanted and sorry for those who were disappointed!

Phew! So now that that whole situation is spoken for, let’s talk about the formula. The formula is thin AND can be a bit sticky at first. But, it doesn’t transfer AT ALL. You won’t see it on your hand, your beverage, your clothes, NADA! Plus, it lasts all day!!!

Dose of Colors ($18)

Shade: Berry Me

Now, this lipstick I’ve wanted for MONTHS! Dose of Colors was sold out of ALL their liquid matte lipsticks since October. I looked everywhere and I couldn’t get my hands on Berry Me for the life of me! By the way, it’s the shade I’m wearing in the picture above. I finally got my hands on it on December 18th, which was the restock date of all their liquid matte lipsticks. It was literally insane because the website was broken because of SO MUCH TRAFFIC! But, I stood my ground! I was consistently trying to order and voila! I got it shipped to my house by Christmas. This may not be my favorite formula but definitely my favorite COLOR! It’s consistency is definitely a bit thicker than the other two brands but I love it! It does transfer very little but not to the point that you have to reapply. Staying power is pretty legit too. Also, they are vegan, cruelty free, gluten free, and paraben free.

Lime Crime Velevtine ($20)

Shade: Salem

I’ve known about this lipstick for a while so it was easy to snag. However, most of the shades are sold out now because social media was booming about this product since November. This was my very first liquid matte lipstick which caused me to fall in love with liquid matte, period. I love the color but the formula can get a little messy! I do have to clean it up sometimes because at first it can get a tad all over the place because it has a thin consistency. I guess it’s a little more watery. I’ve also had to reapply ONCE after eating buffalo wings but that’s understandable because that’s a messy food. The color payoff is great though and it doesn’t transfer much either. Also, they are vegan and cruelty free!

So there you have it! Oh, and as always prep your lips with lip balm before doing a matte lip!
